A Weapon for Spiritual Warriors
Faith is not passive—it’s a battle. In a world that grows increasingly hostile our strength in faith is crucial , believers need more than just symbols; they need strength. The Combat Rosary isn’t just a devotional item—it’s a battle-tested tool designed for spiritual warriors.
This isn’t an ordinary rosary. It’s the rosary that the Pontifical Swiss Guard, protectors of the Pope, called “the most powerful weapon that exists on the market.” And it was created for those who refuse to back down in their faith.
The Origins: A Legacy of Strength
The story of the Combat Rosary begins with a remarkable moment in history.
D-Day, 1944. Private Samuel Balistreri, a U.S. soldier, uncovered a relic of the True Cross of Christ while securing a bombed-out chapel in Normandy, France. This sacred relic, later authenticated by the Vatican, would go on to be touched to thousands of Combat Rosaries and given to service members, law enforcement officers, and first responders through the Combat Rosaries for Heroes charity.
From its very beginning, the Combat Rosary has been more than just beads and medals—it’s been a connection to the sacred, a shield for those in battle, and a declaration of unwavering faith.

The Evolution: From a Forgotten Relic to a Modern-Day Spiritual Weapon
Fast forward to 2006.
Father Richard Heilman, a pastor in Madison, WI, founded the Knights of Divine Mercy, an apostolate dedicated to equipping Catholic men with spiritual strength. Recognizing the need for tools—not trinkets—Father Heilman began searching for a rosary that truly embodied strength and resilience.
That’s when he discovered an original 1916 World War I military rosary—a piece of history issued by the U.S. government to soldiers. These were often called “Service Rosaries”—small, durable, and built for the harshest conditions of war.
Father Heilman knew Catholic men needed this kind of rosary. But instead of simply replicating it, he took it a step further—fortifying it for spiritual warfare.
The Birth of the Combat Rosary
In 2012, Father Heilman developed the first Combat Rosary™, drawing inspiration from the 1916 military design but making it even stronger and more powerful:
-
Indestructible build – Crafted from military-grade materials designed to last a lifetime.
-
Powerful medals – Featuring the Miraculous Medal, St. Benedict Medal, and the Pardon Crucifix—each chosen for its supernatural strength in spiritual battle.
-
Tactical prayer weapon – A rosary that isn’t just for quiet devotion but for active, bold, warrior-like prayer.
This wasn’t just a rosary—it was a declaration of war against the forces of darkness.
The Combat Rosary Gains Global Recognition
By 2015, the demand for the Combat Rosary skyrocketed, leading to the establishment of Roman Catholic Gear—a brand dedicated to equipping Catholics with rugged, battle-ready spiritual tools.
Then, in 2016, a defining moment took place. On the 100th anniversary of the original WWI Service Rosary, Father Heilman gifted Combat Rosaries to 150 new recruits of the Pontifical Swiss Guard. Their commander recognized its power and declared it “the most powerful weapon that exists on the market.”
A rosary designed for soldiers of Christ was now carried by the soldiers who protect the Pope himself.
Arming the Faithful for Spiritual Battle
Today, the Combat Rosary continues its mission:
-
Given to U.S. military personnel, law enforcement officers, and first responders through the non-profit Combat Rosaries for Heroes.
-
Carried by thousands of Catholics worldwide, including those in the United States Grace Force, a movement dedicated to spiritual warfare and intercessory prayer.
-
Built to last for generations, backed by a lifetime guarantee, and hand-assembled in the USA using high-quality materials from the USA and Medals from Italy.
More Than a Rosary—A Call to Arms
The Combat Rosary isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s for those who understand that faith isn’t about comfort—it’s about resilience and dedication. It’s for men and women who refuse to back down in their spiritual fight, who understand that the rosary is a weapon—not a mere accessory.
At Roman Catholic Gear, we don’t sell religious items. We equip spiritual warriors.
