About Roman Catholic Gear
Q: What is your mission?
To restore a love for the sacred jewels in the treasure chest of our Catholic Church by providing meaningful and inspirational tools to help strengthen faith.
Q: Who is Father Richard Heilman?
Very Rev. Richard M. Heilman is the Vicar Forane for the West Dane Vicariate and is a past Wisconsin State Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus. Early in his priesthood, he realized a great need to in particular assist men in their roles as devout Catholic fathers and husbands. He is the author of the Church Militant Field Manual and the creator of the Combat Rosary™. Father Heilman is also the Spiritual Head of the United States Grace Force.
Q: What is the United States Grace Force?
The U.S. Grace Force is not a real branch of the U.S. military, but is a proposed branch that takes up St. Paul’s call to: “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” —Ephesians 6:10-12
The U.S. Grace Force calls upon the Power of God to protect our blessed nation and in particular to help defend our freedom — both at the level of the state and at the level of our souls — against evil spiritual dangers in the world. Learn more about the U.S. Grace Force on its official website.

About Our Rosaries & Chaplets
Q: What is the difference between a rosary and a chaplet?
While both rosaries and chaplets are strings of beads used to pray variations of the Our Father and Hail Mary, there are some important differences between the two. A rosary has five groups of ten beads, starting with an Our Father bead and then ten Hail Marys. A chaplet is a similar type of catholic devotional that focuses on a different devotion. For example, the St. Michael Chaplet is associated with a private revelation that St. Michael gave to a devout Catholic. It is broken up into nine groups of three beads separated by an Our Father bead. Essentially, chaplets are more of a devotional prayer card, typically tied to a specific prayer and saint. Both rosaries and chaplets help you tap into the power of focus in prayer, and both can be used as effective spiritual assault weapons against the forces of Satan. If you’re a Catholic militant looking for equipment fighting the good fight, see the complete list of our combat rosaries and chaplets here.

Q: Why pray the rosary?
- For Perspective — Use the Rosary to help step back from the world and get perspective. Praying the Rosary can help you step back from who you are, where you are, what you’re doing, and what you’re worried about, and help you think about the bigger picture.
- For Peace — Our world is very chaotic and, if you’re not careful, your mind can easily become swept up in the confusion. Returning regularly to the Rosary can help clear your mind and your heart, creating the rarest and most beautiful of treasures — peace.
- For Healing — Every time you pray the Rosary, you draw closer to Jesus and let him help heal your pain and deal with challenges.
- To Slow Down — Take the pace of your life down a few notches and be more present to the moment.
- For Spiritual Strength — The Rosary also gives us strength in the fight against Satan and his many agents. It can help focus our souls towards overcoming challenges in life.
Q: What is a Combat Rosary™?
The Combat Rosary™ is a Holy Rosary that has been designed specifically as a powerful spiritual assault weapon against evil forces attempting to separate us from God and His Will for our lives.
The design for the combat rosaries at Roman Catholic Gear were created by Father Richard Heilman, who based his design on that original 1916 WWI US military issue pull chain service rosary. Roman Catholic Gear is proud to be the official combat rosary of the Pontifical Swiss Guard. Available in silver, gold, bronze, and metal, the authentic combat rosary is exclusively sold at Roman Catholic Gear.
About Our Sacramentals
Q: What are sacramentals?
The Catholic Church currently defines sacramentals as “sacred signs which... signify effects, particularly of a spiritual nature, which are obtained through the intercession of the Church. By them men are disposed to receive the chief effect of the sacraments, and various occasions in life are rendered holy.”
Sacramentals are instituted for the sanctification of certain ministries of the Church, certain states of life, a great variety of circumstances in Christian life, and the use of many things helpful to man. In accordance with bishops’ pastoral decisions, they can also respond to the needs, culture, and special history of the Christian people of a particular region or time. They always include a prayer, often accompanied by a specific sign, such as the laying on of hands, the sign of the cross, or the sprinkling of holy water (which recalls Baptism).
Q: What is the Miraculous Medal?
The Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of Our Lady of Grace, is a devotional medal depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary that is designed to prepare people for receiving and cooperating with grace. In struggles and spiritual warfare, oftentimes the most challenging enemy we face is our own inability to cooperate with grace. This medal is included on the Combat Rosary™ to facilitate a stalwart heart and spirit.
Q: What is the meaning of the St. Benedict medal?
The St. Benedict Medal is a means of reminding one of God and one’s willingness and desire to serve God and neighbor. The exact date and origin of this cross is not known. What is known is that it was originally a cross dedicated to the honor of St. Benedict. The meaning of the cross is the exorcism Vade retro satana, i.e., “Step back, Satan”. Father Heilman included this medal on the Combat Rosary™ for obvious reasons — it is a traditional symbol and constant reminder of combat against Satan.
Q: What is the pardon crucifix?
The pardon crucifix is an important, powerful sacramental in the fight against Satan. The pardon crucifix has been attached to many notable indulgences, throughout its long history. In some situations it has been abused in some’s fruitless quest for indulgences. While it can help receive the gift of indulgence from Christ and His Church, without genuinely pursuing His Heart, the quest for indulgences becomes empty and purely self-interested. The Pardon Crucifix is a tool to be used for drawing closer to Christ, whether for yourself or for other souls in need of grace.
