A Gift on the Blessed Mother's Birthday
"On September 8, 1840, on the Feast of the Nativity of Mary, the Blessed Mother appeared to Sister Justine Bisqueyburu, a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul - the same order as St. Catherine Laboure who received the Miraculous Medal from Our Lady just 10 years earlier! Mary appeared holding her Immaculate Heart engulfed in flames in her right hand, and the Green Scapular in her left.
She revealed that through this devotion, “God would bring to Himself, through the intercession of Blessed Mother Mary, those who had lost their faith or had been separated from Holy Church. They would be assured of a happy death, including eternal salvation.” Graces of conversion and healing of mind, heart, body and soul are associated with the Green Scapular devotion. "
How to Practice the Green Scapular Devotion
The Green Scapular should be blessed by a Catholic priest and worn by the one desired to benefit from Our Lady’s intercession. If a person is unable or unwilling to wear/receive it or pray its prayer, the scapular may be placed, unknown to them, in their possessions or home/work environments.
Prayer of the Green Scapular
Mary urged the those devoted to the Green Scapular to pray the petition on the back of the scapular daily: “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.” If the person desired to benefit from Our Lady's intercession does not say this prayer, anyone can say it for them.
Pray with confidence! The degree of graces received depends on the degree of the intercessor’s confidence in Our Lady.
A Simple Devotion
No enrollment is necessary for the Green Scapular devotion. It is sufficient that it be blessed by a Catholic priest and worn by (or kept for or nearby) the one you desire to benefit from Our Lady's intercession. The petition on the back of the scapular should be prayed daily either by the person desired to benefit from Our Lady's intercession or by someone else on their behalf.
