I love the concept of this medal. Especially having both the miraculous medal and the Saint Benedict medal. That is a combination you don't see as frequently on four way crosses. Also I always found cloth scapulars too quick to fall apart with constant wear. So I seldom wore them. As a Marine this medal was easy to wear with my dog tags and could wear swimming showering, you name it. I literally never take it off.
But there lays the problem. While the medal is well made for the price point ($24.95) the alloy it is made from is not meant for long time wear. It began to corrode with long exposure to the sweat, oil, acids and ph in my skin as well as the soap and shampoo I use in the shower. In the pictures I have attached you can see the corrosion and wear this medal has undergone in less than two year. The medal this replaced was a sterling silver miraculous medal I had worn for over 40 years. And the only reason I had to replace it was that the top loop broke after wearing thin from 40 years of hard wear literally all around the globe, in every climb and place. It survived years of expose to salt water, chlorinated water, desert sands, mud and muck in swamps, you name it. If I hiked, ran or swam through it that medal of Our Lady went through it with me.
I have look for other merchants who might sell a sterling version of this 4 way scapular medal but I can not find it. They offer silver four way crosses, but not with both the miraculous medal and St. Benedict. I would very much like to see this medal of yours offered in sterling chapel or some other durable precious metal. I would not get rid of your $24 medal, but simply add more choices at different price points, so those who might want something more durable have that option. Thanks!
