On behalf of our family, I nominate my sister-in-law, Annette DeMeuse. She has worked in law enforcement for Marquette University on late shift for the last 9 years. Every night she sees the effects of addiction and substance abuse on our community's youth in and around campus. She also responds to a variety of calls that involve the homeless of Milwaukee. She is cussed at, often times disliked, and has been attacked like she is the enemy. Yet, Annette treats everyone she encounters with dignity and compassion. She wears the hat of guardian, counselor and even mother to the students of Marquette and to those in poverty. She is a remarkable role model for her children and nieces and nephews, which is why she is a hero in the hearts of her family.
